Bengal logs 33 new Covid-19 cases, 139 recoveries, one death

This was also the 49th consecutive day of the state reporting a positive confirmation rate of less than 5 per cent in a 24-hour period

Bengal on Saturday reported 33 new Covid-19 infections, 139 recoveries and one death, resulting in a drop in the total of active cases by 106 to 1,085.

The positive confirmation rate — the percentage of samples testing positive for the novel coronavirus — was 0.44 per cent on Saturday. The positive confirmation rate has been below 1 per cent for 29 consecutive days.

This was also the 49th consecutive day of the state reporting a positive confirmation rate of less than 5 per cent in a 24-hour period. Deemed a crucial indicator in the pandemic, a positive confirmation rate of up to 5 per cent is considered tolerable. On January 10, the positive confirmation rate had reached an all-time high for the state at 37.32.

The state’s recovery rate is 98.90 per cent.

The mortality rate in Bengal is 1.05 per cent. Between December 29 and January 16, it had dropped by eight percentage points, before recovering by over 8.5 percentage points.

The state’s mortality rate is 1.05 per cent. Bengal has more nearly 20.17 lakh cases, since the first was detected two years ago. The total includes over 19.94 lakh recoveries and 21,194 deaths.
