Bengal on Saturday reported 236 new Covid-19 infections, including 47 from Calcutta, a three-digit figure in a 24-hour period for 20 consecutive days since the infections spiked in the third wave.
On Saturday, the state also logged 269 recoveries and three deaths, resulting in a dip in active cases by 36 to 1,952. Calcutta reported one death.
This was the 41st consecutive day of such a drop in active cases.
The state’s positive confirmation rate or the percentage of samples testing positive for the virus is 0.82 per cent now, below 1 per cent for nine consecutive days, in a first this pandemic.
Currently, the Covid recovery rate in Bengal is 98.85 per cent.
The national rate is 98.52 per cent now.
Twenty of the state’s 23 districts reported zero deaths on Saturday. The state’s current mortality rate because of Covid is 1.05 per cent.
In these 41 days, the state reported over 2.73 lakh Covid recoveries, which outweighed the 1.16 lakh new infections detected.
Bengal has nearly 20.15 lakh cases now, since the first was detected in the state in March, 2020. This total includes more than 19.91 lakh recoveries and 21,172 deaths.
