The following is a statement issued by Trinamul Congress secretary-general Partha Chatterjee on Tuesday evening:

The new governor, within 15 days of joining, has exposed himself that he is not a neutral person, by making politically biased statements against the government officers and government departments.

As per our Constitution, the state government is an elected body. So is the central government. But the governor is a nominated post and not an elected one.

As per the provision of the Constitution, the jurisdictions have earmarked the role of the state government and the role of the governor.

West Bengal is a beautiful state. The governor must visit beautiful places in West Bengal and enjoy the hospitality of the state government. This is desirable.

What is not desirable is a constitutional position, unnecessarily becoming over-active, interfering in all respects of government business and government officers.

The governor should not misuse the constitutional jurisdiction and should avoid political gimmicks everyday.

Our TMC government is peoples’ government and is aware of what to do and what not to do.
