Governor C.V. Ananda Bose on Sunday evening launched a portal — Log Sabha — a citizens' grievance redress platform in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls amid a buzz that Raj Bhavan seeks to play a significant role in this election.

Raj Bhavan also launched a dedicated email — rajbhavankolkata@gmail.com — for the portal for people to send their grievances or suggestions.

"The portal was opened within 24 hours of the Election Commission of India announcing the schedule for Lok Sabha polls. Grievances and suggestions received through the portal will be acted upon immediately by the governor. The move has been taken to minimise violence and corruption during the polls in Bengal," said an official in Raj Bhavan.

A senior official in Raj Bhavan said that the governor made his role and that of his office clear on Saturday when he travelled to Howrah to interact with people.

"I will be in the field right from day one of the elections. My two priorities will be to see no violence and corruption occur during the elections. I will be on the road at 6am.... political Holi with human blood will not be allowed in Bengal anymore," Bose told the media on Saturday.

Bengal's ruling Trinamul asked whether Raj Bhavan could open such a platform, virtually stepping into the jurisdiction of the Election Commission of India.

"The governor is not supposed to look after any poll matter as it is entirely within the jurisdiction of the Election Commission of India under relevant provisions of the Constitution. Now, whatever he (the governor) is doing is stepping into the EC's jurisdiction," said Trinamul Rajya Sabha member Sukhendu Sekhar Roy.

A senior Raj Bhavan official said that the governor had previously assumed a similar role in the 2023 panchayat polls in Bengal, which were marked by numerous reports of violence and corruption.
