The Bengal government has reappointed Justice (retired) Asim Roy as the Lokayukta of the state.
A meeting was held at Nabanna on Monday to select the Lokayukta and it was attended by chief minister Mamata Banerjee, Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee, the chief secretary and the home secretary.
“We have unanimously decided that Justice (retired) Asim Roy should continue in the position,” said Mamata at Nabanna.
The Opposition leader, Suvendu Adhikari, did not attend the meeting, saying the state government had not provided required information ahead of the deliberations.
At another meeting, the state government has selected Justice (retired) Jyotirmoy Bhattacharya as the chairperson of the state human rights commission. Justice (retired) Madhumita Mitra has been appointed as the member of the commission.
The state government also decided to appoint former DGP Virendra and former PWD secretary Naveen Prakash as information commissioners. The tenure of the chief information commissioner, Basudeb Banerjee, will come to an end on June 6.
Sources said the state was set to float advertisement for the post of chief information commissioner soon.
