Bengal govt appoints returning officers for GTA elections

The appointments show that state government plans to go ahead with the polls, which have been due since 2017

The Bengal government on Friday appointed three returning officers and 60 assistant returning officers for elections to the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration.

The subdivisional officers of Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong have been appointed as the returning officers, while officers of various designations have been appointed as returning officers, sources said.

Earlier, the state government had appointed the Jalpaiguri divisional commissioner as the election authority and the Darjeeling district magistrate as the election officer.

The appointments show that the state government plans to go ahead with the GTA polls, which have been due since 2017.
