Bengal duo die in Andhra crash

Group of workers from South Dinajpur district had gone to Vizianagaram district to work on construction project around one month ago

Two migrant workers from South Dinajpur district died when a vehicle ferrying them fell into a gorge in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday night.

According to sources, a group of workers from South Dinajpur district had gone to Vizianagaram district in Andhra Pradesh to work on a construction project around a month ago.

On Sunday, 16 workers went to a local market and while returning to theirworkplace, the vehicle in which they were traveling went off a hilly road and fell into a gorge.

“Two of them died and others suffered injuries in the accident. The deceased have been identified as Basudeb Mondal, 36, from Durglabhpur village under Balurghat police station, and Jugal Pahan, 35, who hailed from Kamalpur, under Patiram police station of the district.

“These two workers lost their lives while the remaining others got injured. Today, we got information about their deaths,” said Pushpajit Chakraborty, a resident of Durlabhpur.

Police officers in South Dinjpur said they were in contact with the families of the workers and their counterparts in Andhra Pradesh.

“Arrangements are being made to bring the mortal remains of the two workers,” said an officer.
