The Bengal chapter of Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Thursday held a rally here in solidarity with the wrestlers protesting at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, accusing the Modi government of protecting the Wrestling Federation of India chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh accused of sexual harassment.
“We demand the arrest of the WFI chief on charges of sexually harassing women wrestlers of the country, we also accuse Prime Minister Narendra Modi of protecting his fellow MP from proper police action. Delhi police are under the control of the Union home ministry and Modi as the chief of the government can’t deny his responsibility behind the police inaction,” said Avik Saha, a member of the SKM national coordination committee.
Effigies of the Modi government and Singh were burnt at the rally at Moulali crossing.
Earlier this month, Delhi police filed two FIRs against Singh, following a prod by the Supreme Court, after seven wrestlers, including a minor, filed complaints against him. One FIR was filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
The BJP MP is yet to be arrested.
