Bengal BJP lines up activities in bid to counter TMC protest in Delhi

'A team of BJP MPs will meet (Union rural development minister) Giriraj Singh or (the minister of state) Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, to explain with documentary evidence of corruption that the Trinamul-led state government indulged in with the central funds,' said state BJP unit chief Sukanta Majumdar

The BJP’s state unit is busy planning activities till the Durga Puja break to discredit Trinamul's Delhi protest events starting Monday.

“A team of BJP MPs will meet (Union rural development minister) Giriraj Singh or (the minister of state) Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, to explain with documentary evidence of corruption that the Trinamul-led state government indulged in with the central funds,” said state BJP unit chief Sukanta Majumdar, who will also reach Delhi on Monday.

He said this would be in addition to the party’s sit-in on Monday by the Gandhi statue in Calcutta's Mayo Road against Trinamul's "corruption". Bengal's ruling party will conduct an event at Delhi's Rajghat on Gandhi Jayanti on Monday.

“Our MLAs will organise a dharna here, by the Gandhi statue,” said Majumdar.

Sources in the BJP state unit said these activities were among several being planned by the leadership to discredit Trinamul’s events in Delhi.

“Because they (Trinamul) will do all this in Delhi, they will get visibility. It will be widely covered by the media in Bengal. We need to put our best foot forward to counter this. Till Puja, there will be many more activities to punch holes into all Trinamul claims made in Delhi,” said a source.

“Trinamul is pitching the issue of so-called deprivation by the Centre to corner us here in the run-up to Lok Sabha polls. We have to nullify its impact,” he added.

Monday’s sit-in is being held by the BJP Mahila Morcha.

“We want to let Bengal's people know the state government did not get funds as it could not show proof of utilisation because of corruption," said Falguni Patra, chief of BJP Bengal women’s wing.
