The subinspector of schools (Samserganj) was heckled and beaten during a committee meeting at the local BDO office on Friday afternoon, reportedly for trying to record a group of persons including local functionaries who had disrupted the meeting.
SI Hosneara Khatun was helming a meeting of the block’s primary school sports committee, of which she is convener, when a group of allegedly dissenting members walked into proceedings more than an hour late and tried to disrupt it.
“Committee chairperson Anwara Biwi and a few other local Trinamul leaders including committee head Anjumara Khatun, walked in at 3.50pm for a 2pm meeting and began the disruption,” said a source.
The SI later filed an FIR at Samserganj police station naming five persons, alleging she had been physically assaulted for trying to make an audio recording on her phone.
“The main culrpit was Anjumara, who initiated the violence. The government officer on duty in the meeting did not take any action,” alleged Hosneara, adding that even the BDO referred her to police when informed about the proceedings.
The BDO did not respond to repeated calls from this newspaper.
Asked, Anjumara denied the allegations, saying she had “merely asked the SI to put her phone away”.
Samserganj police said they had started an investigation based on the FIR.
