A Bangladeshi national was nabbed by the BSF near the Bangladesh border at Cooch Behar on Sunday.
Sources said Md Rabiual, 24, of Thakurgaon of Bangladesh, was arrested while trying to enter his home country “illegally” at 10pm on Sunday. He said he came to India eight years ago to work, and was presently employed in Haryana’s Panipat as a weaver.
It is learnt that Rabiual had reached Jalpaiguri by train from Delhi on February 4 and had paid a sum of Rs 10,000 to an Indian tout to help him cross the India-Bangladesh border.
The arrested person has been handed over to Kuchlibar police station.
The North Bengal Frontier of the BSF also carried out an anti-smuggling drive and seized nine cattle and recovered 482 bottles of phensedyl cough syrup, which is misused as an addictive substance, in the past two days.
