A Bangladeshi family of four, including two children, were detained by BSF authorities when they were trying to cross the border to return to their country on Saturday.
It has been learnt from BSF sources that Jahir Hossain, his wife Nurjahan Bibi and their two minor children illegally came to India in 2019 and the couple had been working in Rajasthan.
“A few days ago they came to Dinhata in Cooch Behar to try and go back to Bangladesh through the international border at Gitaldaha. On Saturday, they failed to produce valid documents and admitted that they had infiltrated India three years ago. They are residents of Fulbari police station area of Kurigram district in Bangladesh,” a BSF source said.
The Bangladeshi nationals were handed over to Dinhata police station by the BSF.
Accident toll
The toll in Saturday’s dumper truck accident at Pakurtala market in Tufanganj, Cooch Behar, that had claimed four persons, reached five on Sunday. Shahid Alam, 14, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday. The accident occurred when a dumper truck lost control mowed down pedestrians at the market. Police have arrested the driver of the dumper.
