A Bangladeshi family was intercepted by the Border Security Force in Cooch Behar early on Tuesday for allegedly trying to enter India illegally.

Ramesh Barman, 48, of Khagrabari village in Bangladesh’s Thakurgaon district was caught along with his wife, mother and son.

“They were trying to enter India to find work. Ramesh Barman had earlier entered India, worked as a daily-rated worker in Jalpaiguri and gone back. This time, he again wanted to enter India with his family. They had negotiated with a Bangladeshi tout who charged 40,000 Bangladeshi Taka to help them cross the border,” said a source.

Troops of the 15th battalion of the BSF posted in the Kautilya border outpost near the international border nabbed them. Some Bangladeshi Taka, two cell phones and two Indian voter cards were found on them.

All four persons were later handed over to Kotwali police.
