Two Bangladeshi residents were nabbed in north Bengal during the past two days at the India-Bangladesh border in North Dinajpur district.
On Wednesday, acting on a tip-off, troops of the 152nd battalion of the BSF at Dangipara border outpost of the India-Bangladesh border nabbed Md Abbu Bakkar, a resident of Thakurgaon district of Bangladesh, while he was allegedly illegally trying to cross India to enter his country.
Sixty cough syrup bottles, a phone and Bangladeshi currency were recovered from his possession. During interrogation, Bakkar revealed he went to Kashmir in 2015 for work and was trying to cross over to visit his family. He was handed over to Goalpokhar police.
On Tuesday, Abaidul, a youth from Brahmanberia of Bangladesh was intercepted by troops of the 132nd battalion of the BSF at the India-Bangla border district he was trying to enter India without papers. He was later handed over to Chopra police.
The BSF also conducted anti-smuggling drives across the north Bengal frontier from December 12 to 20 and seized contraband items including cattle.
The cost of the seized items is Rs 17.01 lakh, said sources.
