Troops of the 148 battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) posted on the India-Bangladesh border in Cooch Behar district arrested two Bangladeshi nationals on Thursday while they were trying to cross the international border through an unfenced stretch of the Dahagram-Angrapota enclave.

They were trying to enter India and had no papers on them.

The duo are brothers, Md Sarif and Md Sohail, and residents of Cumilla district of the neighbouring country. Both will be handed over to Cooch Behar district police by Thursday night.

The BSF also carried out drives against smuggling at different bordering locations on Wednesday night and seized different contraband items worth Rs 1.70 lakh.

Body exhumed

The body of homemaker Archana Barman, 28, was recovered and exhumed by Raiganj police in North Dinajpur district on Wednesday night, almost eight months after she went missing. Four persons, including her stepson, were arrested.

Sources said that Archana went missing on October 10 last year from Chatparua village under Raiganj block. Her stepson Gopal Barman filed a missing diary.

Her father Jagabandhu Barman filed a complaint, alleging Gopal had killed her.

Gopal was arrested but released on bail. A few days back, local Trinamul leader Sona Toppo came across information related to the case and informed police, who resumed the probe. “We acted on the information and on Wednesday night, the victim’s body was exhumed from a spot of the village. Her stepson and three others, who we suspect murdered and buried her, were arrested,” said a police officer.
