The Bengal CID on Friday arrested Siam Hossain, a prime suspect in the alleged murder of Bangladesh MP Mohammad Anwarul Azim Anar.
CID sources said Hossain had sneaked into Nepal and was captured by Nepal police before being handed over to the Bengal CID.
A state CID officer said Hossain, 33, a resident of Burhanuddin in Bhola district of Bangladesh, was arrested on Friday at the Bongaon border.
CID sleuths said the alleged mastermind, Akhtaruzzaman Shahin, a US-based Bangladeshi businessman, had engaged Hossain for the assassination plot.
Hossain allegedly connected Shahin with Jihad Hawladar, the butcher, who was brought from Mumbai to allegedly kill Anar and chop his body into small pieces.
Sleuths said Hossain was found using two SIM cards, one bought in Calcutta and the other in Muzaffarpur in Bihar. He is suspected to have crossed into Nepal through Bihar.
This was the second arrest in the murder case. Officers said the forensic report for the flesh found from the sewerage pipe of the Rajarhat apartment where the MP was killed, is yet to arrive.
“After the report comes, we will be able to say if it was human flesh or not. Then, his daughter would be requested to come for DNA sampling test,” said an officer.
