Two police officers were on Sunday transferred from the Bandel zone where Trinamul leader Dilip Ram was killed on Saturday amid dissatisfaction in the local party leadership at the lack of arrests over the daylight murder.

Those shifted are inspector in charge of Chinsurah police station, Nirupam Ghosh, and Deepashree Sengupta, in charge of the Bandel police outpost. Ram was shot while crossing the tracks near Bandel station, allegedly by BJP-backed goons.

Trinamul sources said party leaders had earlier complained of police inaction against some of the BJP-backed goons despite having lodged specific complaints.

“I have been complaining about the activities of the BJP-backed goons like Biju Paswan for four years. Were the police sleeping?” Now the officers have been transferred after Dilip’s death. We want nothing but the arrest of all the goons behind the murder,” Asit Mazumder, the Chinsurah Trinamul MLA, said.

Ram’s wife Ritu Singh has in her FIR named three suspected BJP workers in the area. Asked about the probe, Akhilesh Chaturvedi, the Chandannagar police commissioner, said: “We have several clues but we will disclose it later.”
