“In north Bengal, we introduced the awards last year and the response was overwhelming. This year, we are hosting it in a major way for two days and hope more and more schools will participate in the event,” said Amitabha Datta, the chairman of TTEF.

During the two-day event to be held at Dinabandhu Mancha of the city, awards, certificates and scholarships will be distributed to schools and students.

“We provide scholarships to hundreds of students, especially those braving various hurdles to continue their studies every year. In Siliguri, such scholarships would be handed over to many students,” said Datta.

Along with the awards, there will be merit and honour certificates, winners’ trophies and special recognitions, sources said.

The organisers said that the TTEF has been committed to supporting students who have faced adversity — physical, financial or social.

“This year, the awards will highlight the importance of resilience in education and the scholarships will provide the much-needed financial assistance to deserving students while celebrating academic and extracurricular excellence across north Bengal,” said one of them.

According to him, the awards will be distributed across two main sections: school categories and individual categories, with each recognising a wide array of contributions to education.

The sections of school categories include the school of the year, a school that cares, excellence in maintenance and eco-friendly initiatives, excellence in academics, excellence in extra-curricular activities, and outstanding social service.

On the other hand, under the individual categories for students, awards will be handed over for excellence in academics, all-round excellence, outstanding talent, outstanding sportsperson, outstanding talent in music and a courage award.

Teachers will also be honoured with lifetime achievement awards.

“The schools and students from across the north Bengal districts can file nominations in different categories by October 8. The details are available on the Facebook page of TTEF,” said a source.

“In case of any clarification, anyone can make a call at 9051297250 or send a mail to tteducationfoundation@gmail.com,” the source added.
