A Trinamul worker in Durgapur town was beaten up on Saturday night by suspected followers of a party borough chairman after the activist accused the leader of corruption on the Didi Ke Bolo (Tell Didi) helpline.

Toton Das claimed Chandrasekhar Banerjee had earlier slapped him on Thursday after he made the allegations.

“I was advised over phone to lodge a complaint with police. I had decided to lodge a complaint with the police. But last night, some Trinamul workers close to the borough chairman attacked me,” Das alleged.

Banerjee denied the charges. “It was the conspiracy of a rival faction in my party and the Opposition,” the leader said.
