Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday threatened to lodge an FIR against chief minister Mamata Banerjee after she warned BJP leaders of arrest if central agencies arrested Trinamul leaders.

"I will lodge an FIR against the chief minister for her comment. The Netaji Indoor Stadium falls under the Hare Street police station area. I will go there to file an FIR against her (Mamata Banerjee)," Adhikari told reporters at Joynagar in South 24-Parganas.

Mamata, who addressed her party's rank and file for over an hour at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, mounted a scathing attack on the BJP and the CPM, bringing charges of anomalies and corruption against the two major Opposition parties in Bengal.

Although Mamata remained silent on the Congress and hailed the INDIA alliance, her Thursday speech also invited criticism from a section of Rahul Gandhi's party in Bengal.

"They have jailed four of our MLAs. They are trying to reduce our number (of MLAs) by such moves. If they send our four MLAs to jail... we vow on behalf of our party to arrest eight of their (BJP) people," said Mamata.

Trinamul leaders Partha Chatterjee, Jiban Krishna Saha, Manik Bhattacharya, Anubrata Mondal and Jyoti Priya Mallick are in jail for their alleged involvement in cases of corruption.

BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar challenged Trinamul chief to make a start by arresting him.

"Let her start with me. I can ensure any of the eight BJP leaders arrested by Mamata Banerjee's government will get a clean chit by the court as no one is involved in coal smuggling, cow smuggling or selling government jobs," said Majumdar.

The CPM, in keeping with its party's Bengal line, targeted both the BJP and Trinamul.

"This is not a subject of four or eight MLAs or leaders. a large number of leaders of both parties — BJP and Trinamul, including their MPs and MLAs — should go to jail," said Mohammad Salim, the CPM's state committee secretary.

The Congress's state leadership questioned the chief minister for not walking the talk when some of the "corrupt" BJP leaders were on her side.

"The chief minister and this Trinamul government are responsible for corruption, loot and murder. We are witnessing the ugliest face of law and order under this regime. Why did you not take steps against those when they (BJP leaders) were in your party," asked Congress spokesperson Soumya Aich Roy.
