The citizen-friendly app of Calcutta police will now connect users to the police headquarters at Lalbazar at the tap of a button and track pending traffic cases.
The Bondhu app was relaunched with a host of new features at the Christmas festival at Allen Park on Friday.
The most effective security feature that the relaunched app has been equipped with is a “panic button”, which if pressed will connect the caller to Lalbazar, police said.
“Pressing the panic button will also reveal the caller’s location to officers at Lalbazar and help the police act promptly even if the caller is not in a position to share any details,” an officer said.
Some of the other new features include tracking pending traffic cases; registration for Pronam (the elderly care service), downloading of the post-mortem report and smart parking solutions.
“This is a Christmas gift from Calcutta police to the city. We have worked very hard to make the app more citizen-friendly and effective. It is an appeal to all citizens to download this app and use it in times of need,” Calcutta police commissioner Anuj Sharma said at the programme attended by senior dignitaries of the church and senior officers of Calcutta police.
Calcutta police have recently announced helpline numbers — 100, 033-22143024, 033-22143230 and 033-22141310 — with an appeal to citizens to call to clarify any doubt or rumour instead of believing or spreading any misinformation related to violence over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act
Friday’s event was part of the ongoing Calcutta Christmas Festival that was inaugurated on Monday by chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
