Another fire in Calcutta, this time in wholesale medicine hub in Burrabazar

Six fire tenders have been rushed to the building, which has many offices and godowns

A fire broke out on the fourth floor of Mehta Building in Calcutta’s Burrabazar area on Tuesday afternoon.

According to police sources flames and smoke were seen emanating from a room on the fourth floor of the Mehta building, the centre of wholesale medicines in Calcutta.

Six fire tenders have been rushed to the building, which has many offices and godowns. Police believe no one is trapped inside.

On 14 June, a fire erupted in the Acropolis Mall in south Calcutta. The mall has been shut since then.

On June 11, a massive fire broke out at Park Centre on the crossing of Park Street and Camac Street junction, near Allen's Park.
