Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Siliguri later this month to attend the Raising Day of the Sashasra Seema Bal (SSB), senior officials of the central security force said hereon Wednesday.
The SSB, which functions under Shah’s ministry, guards the Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan borders.
“The SSB will celebrate its 61st Raising Day on December 20. On this occasion, a parade and some other events would be held at the Siliguri Frontier of SSB. Union home minister Amit Shah will be present here on that day to attend the event,” said Sudhir Kumar, inspector general of the Siliguri Frontier of SSB.
Headquartered in Ranidanga on the outskirts of Siliguri, the frontier looks after a stretch of 315 kilometres of the India-Nepal border and 215 kilometres of the India-Bhutan border innorth Bengal.
Sources in SSB said on December 18, there will be a rehearsal of the parade.
On December 20, six contingents of SSB will join the parade, which will be followed by some other programmes like “Malkhamb” (a traditional sport), martial arts, cultural performances by troupes of Sikkim and also a performance by Totos, one of the primitive tribes who dwell in Madarihat blockof Alipurduar.
