A first-year student at a technical institution in Alipurdur district on Friday filed a police complaint alleging a senior had raped her a few days back.

Sources said some students of the institution, including the victim and the accused, had gone for a picnic. At night, the accused, who is a third-year student, allegedly took the 19-year-old girl to a room and raped her.

The girl narrated the incident to her friend who suggested that she file a police complaint. The police made arrangements for the victim’s medical examination and are in search of the accused.

Representatives of the institution said the girl had not filed any complaint with them. “We learned about the complaint from the police,” said a representative.

Youth arrested

Police on Friday arrested Irshad, a youth who was accused of sexually
assaulting a 16-year-old girl on September 10.

K.G. Meena, the additional superintendent of police of Cooch Behar, said the girl was on her way to tuition when the youth intercepted her. He took the girl to a deserted place on his bike and allegedly assaulted her sexually.

Irshad was picked up from the Bengal-Assam border.
