Alipurduar: Two killed, six injured in accidents

The vehicle tried to cross a bus and rammed behind a truck that was parked on the highway

Two persons including a child died and six others suffered injuries in two accidents which occurred in different locations of Alipurduar district in the past 24 hours.

On Thursday evening, a car carrying a groom and his relatives from Matigara of Darjeeling district to Madarihat for wedding met with an accident on Asian Highway 48 at Demdima bridge under Birpara police station.

The vehicle tried to cross a bus and rammed behind a truck that was parked on the highway. Locals rushed to the spot and rescued the injured people. They were taken to the state general hospital in Birpara where doctors pronounced Aditayan Talukder, a 10-year-old boy, dead.

Soumik Chakraborty, the groom, also sustained injuries and is under treatment. The marriage has been postponed.

In another incident, a car collided with a bus that was standing at a bus stop on NH 31C in Mantharam area under Kalchini police station on Friday afternoon.

Saraswati Saha, 48, one of the passengers died on the spot while three others, including the driver, were injured.

Murder

An 80-year-old woman was hacked to death allegedly by her son-in-law in Cooch Behar district on Thursday night.

According to police probe, Dilip Oraon, the accused, entered the home in an intoxicated condition and hacked Budhi Oraon to death. The accused has been booked with murder charges.
