Police have rescued a minor girl of the district, who went missing nearly a year ago, from Uttar Pradesh.
Last year, the 16-year-old girl had befriended some youths based in Delhi in the course of playing online games on her cell phone.
Last September, the girl suddenly left for Delhi without telling her parents.
The parents informed the police who sent a team to Delhi. The team nabbed one of the youths but before they could raid the spot where the girl was staying, the other youths managed to flee, taking the girl along with them.
Recently, the police got another tip off that the girl was at a village in Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh. “A team was sent and the girl was rescued with help from the local police. On Tuesday, they reached her home town. She was handed over to the child welfare committee,” said Kuntal Banerjee, the additional SP of Jaigaon.
