Alipurduar : Highway collision injures 25

Around 25 persons were injured in a collision on Asian Highway 48 in Ethelbari under Falakata police station of Alipurduar district on Saturday morning.

Police sources said a group of 40-odd daily wage earners from Tulsipara tea estate were on their way to Gairkata in a pick-up van to work.

At Ethelbari, as the van tried to overtake a truck, it collided head on with a truck coming from the opposite direction.

Bystanders and local residents rushed to the help of the injured and took them to the state general hospital in Birpara.

Police cleared the highway. Both the vehicles have been seized.

In another accident, a pick-up van collided with an e-rickshaw on NH31C at Chepani Halt under Samuktala police station on Saturday afternoon.

The e-rickshaw driver sustained serious injuries and is under treatment at the district hospital in Alipurduar.

After the mishap, some people blocked the highway.

Police cleared the road after half an hour.
