Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav scheduled to meet Trinamul Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee at her Kalighat residence at 5 PM today.

Yadav reached Calcutta on Friday morning to attend a two-day national executive committee meeting of his party.

The meeting assumes significance in the wake of talks of formation of a morcha of like-minded regional parties of the country who are in favour of maintaining equal distances from both the BJP as well as the Congress.

The two leaders are also likely to speak on political moves to counter the alleged use of central investigating agencies by the BJP against opposition leaders as a means of carrying out “political vendetta”.

“Our focus is to remove the BJP from Uttar Pradesh and the rest of the country. The media is interested about opposition alliance but people of this country want the BJP to go,” Yadav said after landing at the Calcutta airport.

Sources in TMC confirmed that Banerjee is also likely to meet Biju Janata Dal chief Naveen Patnaik next week as follow up to her meeting with Yadav on Friday.
