Police on Saturday arrested Asma Biwi and her boyfriend Sheikh Dulal Ali, both 35, from Dhanyaghar in East Midnapore’s Nandakumar for the murder of her husband Sheikh Nur Mohammed, 40, on the night of July 3.
The affair between Asma and Dulal went public in May, villagers said. Nur told the salisi sabha (kangaroo court) about it, which fined Dulal Rs 40,000 and said he would be lynched if he came near Asma.
On July 1, Asma reportedly went to her mother’s home in Fatehpur with Nur, after which she called Dulal there and allegedly gave Nur sleeping pills. With Dulal’s help she killed Nur with a sickle late on July 3, and later returned to Dhanyaghar.
Asma confessed to the crime on Friday when Nur’s family charged her with his disappearance. Nur’s body was found from a ditch, sealed with cement, in Asma’s mother’s kitchen on Saturday. Asma’s mother has also been arrested, additional SP (headquarters), S.M. Hasan said.
