The CBI team probing the gangrape and death of a minor girl in Nadia’s Hanskhali has picked up Surajit Roy, a close friend of prime accused Sohail Gayali, the son of local Trinamul leader Samar Gayali, for interrogation.

Sources said that the sleuths came to know from Sohail’s interrogation that Surajit attended the former’s birthday party on April 4, the day the crime took place.

Surajit’s mother, however, claimed that her son was innocent and did not attend the party. She claimed the charges were fabricated.

Sources said the CBI team is trying to find out under what circumstances the body of the girl was cremated early on April 5 and who all were involved in the entire episode.

The CBI team is also trying to find out a civic volunteer on duty in the village on the fateful night of April 4.He is absconding ever since the CBI took over the case.

On April 4, the 14-year-old schoolgirl had been invited to the birthday party at local

Trinamul leader Samar Gayali’s home where his son Sohail along with two others allegedly raped her. She returned home in the evening bleeding and died early on April 5.

The victim’s body was allegedly brought to the unauthorised crematorium by some persons forcibly and was cremated in a hurry.

The CBI is also trying to find out if any body part was buried in any nearby place as the body was cremated in haste.

The CBI team has already collected burnt remains from the pyre for a DNA test and combed the adjacent areas of the crematorium, but as of now further evidence has remained elusive.

The victim's mother in her complaint had said that the body was cremated in front of her husband.

However, her husband, the girl's father, told the sleuths that his daughter’s cremation was completed before his arrival there.

On Saturday, the state government also sent a medical team to examine the health of the victim's parents who have been suffering from trauma, anxiety apart from malnutrition and other health-related problems.

The block medical officer of health, Hanskhali, and two rural health workers, examined the couple. The girl’s mother of the girl, despite being anaemic, was in a better shape than the father, the team members said.
