Two higher secondary examinees lost their lives in separate incidents in Murshidabad district on Tuesday.

The first victim was 18-year-old Nafil Sheikh, a resident of Ghorapara village and a student of New Farakka High School.
Nafil had finished his history exam at Arjunpur High School and was hit by a truck when he was heading home on a motorcycle along with two friends.

Nafil fell off the bike and suffered severe head injuries as he was not wearing a helmet. He was rushed to the Arjunpur Health Center in a critical condition, where he was pronounced dead by doctors. While Nafil died, his friends, both aged 18, suffered minor injuries.

In another incident, a specially-abled student, Pritam Das, 18, suffered a cardiac arrest while taking the exam.

Pritam, a resident of the Parulia village under the jurisdiction of Suti police station, was a student of Muralipukur High School. He was physically challenged as he suffered from neurological issues.

Despite his challenges, Pritam was serious about his studies and was taking the exam with the help of a writer. However, he suddenly complained of chest pain around 11am, lost consciousness in the exam hall and was immediately taken to the Mohisail Block Hospital, where he was declared dead by doctors.

Preliminary indications were that a heart attack was the cause of Pritam’s death.

The headmaster of Muralipukur High School, Anwarul Islam, expressed sorrow at Pritam’s demise.

He said: “Pritam Das was a very hardworking student. He secured first division in the exams and struggled a lot to get this place. He passed away under tragic circumstances. We are deeply saddened at his death.”
