Trinamul will underscore incidents of alleged BSF atrocities on villagers in hamlets near the India-Bangladesh border during the statewide outreach which the party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee is scheduled to launch from here on Tuesday.

Abhishek, expected to reach Cooch Behar on Monday, will visit the homes of Prem Kumar Barman and Mojaffar Rehman in Gitaldaha on Tuesday. These youths died after the BSF reportedly fired at them.

“Time and again, we have pointed out how villagers in bordering areas suffer because of the BSF’s highhandedness. In Cooch Behar, many youths have died due to the BSF's unprovoked firing. Nisith Pramanik, the local MP and junior minister in the Union home ministry, is silent on this. We will surely raise this issue during the outreach,” said Udayan Guha, the north Bengal development minister who is from Cooch Behar.

Earlier this year, when Abhishek was in Cooch Behar, he brought Prem's family on the dais of his public meeting and promised to fight for their justice.

“The BSF fired pellets at him while he was strolling in his village. This is atrocious,” he had said.

In north Bengal, six districts — barring Kalimpong and Alipurduar — share borders with Bangladesh.
