Trinamul national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Monday trained guns at Mann ki Baat, the signature outreach programme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that completed 100 episodes on Sunday.
As a part of the party’s mass-contact initiative Trinamul-ey Nabajowar (New wave in Trinamul), Abhishek held a meeting at Karnojora area of Raiganj in North Dinajpur.
“The Prime Minister is sharing his ideas with people through Mann ki Baat. But people of the country are deprived of food, clothes and a roof over their heads, the basic needs of a human being,” Abhishek said.
“Manusher jutche naa duto ruti, du mutho bhaat, aar Pradhan Mantri korchhen Mann ki Baat (People aren’t getting two rotis or two fistfuls of rice but the Prime Minister is doing Mann ki Baat),” Abhishek said.
“The BJP made so many promises before coming to power. But the people are now dismayed to see achche din (good days) have not come. Black money could not be recovered. People have not got a roof over their heads. All these promises made by the BJP have not been fulfilled. But the PM has completed the 100th episode of Mann ki Baat,” said the Trinamul MP.
He offered to arrange “60,000 booths” in Bengal for the Prime Minister to share with people in his Mann ki Baat the reasons for “holding up” the state’s financial dues.
Attacking Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Abhishek said: “He threatened Krishna Kalyani, the MLA of Raiganj, with raids by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the CBI. The more the BJP uses the ED and the CBI, the more the people will support Trinamul.”
Abhishek added: “He (Adhikari) is actually helping us indirectly. The more he is active in the BJP, the more the BJP will plunge into failure.”
Attacking the BJP MP of Raiganj, Debashree Choudhuri, he said: “She was elected by you.... But she has not done a single project for the benefit of the people so far.”
Speaking about the recent protests of the BJP over the death of a 17-year-old girl in North Dinajpur district, and the bandh convened by the BJP after the alleged killing of a Kaliaganj youth in police firing, Abhishek said: “Those who are capitalising on deaths and bandh are actually politically bankrupt. People have rejected them.”
