A 62-year-old woman from Falakata town of Alipurduar district managed to escape from the clutches of two youths who had allegedly abducted her and looted the gold ornaments she had been wearing on Wednesday.

Tripti Pine is currently under treatment at home. Police are in search of the duo.

Sources said Tripti, who resides at Hospital Road in Falakata, was on her way to the market in Hathkhola to buy some items in the afternoon when two youths approached her and apparently sprayed some chemical on her.

As she became drowsy, the duo led her to an e-rickshaw nearby and headed to Falakata railway station. On the way, they allegedly snatched a pair of gold earrings, two rings, a couple of bangles and chain which she was wearing, and took Rs 1,200 from her purse.

On reaching the station, the youths guided the still-disoriented Tripti to the Howrah-bound Kamrup Express and made her board a coach, sources said.

“We are fortunate that at the noise at the station made my mother regain her senses. She somehow got off the train,” said Bittu, her son.

Finding her dizzy at the station, one of the RPF personnel on duty approached her. The two youths fled.

Tripti was taken to the super-specialty hospital and then sent home.

“My mother can’t still recall everything clearly. We suspect that the duo had sprayed a tranquilliser on her,” the son added.

Police have spoken to Tripti. They are collecting video footage of the station and the probable route via which the youths had taken her to the station.

“We need to identify the duo. It seems they are members of an organised racket,” said a police officer.
