A resident of Cooch Behar town dies on Saturday morning after being hit by a truck

A resident of Cooch Behar town died on Saturday morning after being hit by a truck.

Sources said Ganesh Dey, 65, was walking on the Cooch Behar-Tufanganj Road when the truck hit him from behind. He died on the spot.

A team from Kotwali police station and firemen went to the spot and recovered the body.

The body has been sent to MJN Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.

The police are searching for the driver who absconded with the truck.

Arrests

The personnel of the 137th battalion of the BSF posted in the Majhigram border outpost near the India-Bangladesh border in South Dinajpur district apprehended a woman from Majhigram village on Friday and 220 pieces of Yaba tablets, 29 cough syrup bottles, and 400 pieces of Buprenorphine injection from her home.

Sources said had planned to smuggle these contraband items to Bangladesh. Later, she was handed over to Balurghat police station.

Fungicide

Troops of the 61st battalion of the BSF posted at the Srirampur border outpost of South Dinajpur district nabbed Abdul Mondal, a resident of Shrikrishnapur village, on Friday along with his e-rickshaw and seized five containers of a Bangladesh-made fungicide from him. He had allegedly smuggled them from Bangladesh, BSF sources said. Mondal was later handed over to Customs authorities in Hili.
