A 21-year-old student leader based in South Sikkim was found dead on Wednesday.
Police sources said that Padam Gurung, president of the students’ representative council at Namchi Government College, South Sikkim, had been missing since Tuesday night.
Amid the rain, his family members and friends searched for him but to no avail.
On Wednesday, his body was found in a drain in Kazitar area, around 77km from state capital Gangtok.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the district hospital for a post-mortem to ascertain the cause of his death.
Investigations have started, police sources said.
Arrested with gun
Acting on a tip-off, a team of New Jalpaiguri police station under the Siliguri Metropolitan Police arrested Shankar Adhikary of Kachakali, a locality in Chopra block of the neighbouring North Dinajpur, late on Tuesday with weapons from Siliguri.
Adhikary had been roaming near the Fulbari barrage area in southern Siliguri with an improvised firearm and a round of live cartridge when he was intercepted by cops.
