61-year-old woman tourist from Calcutta killed in SUV collision on trip to Dooars

A 61-year-old woman from the outskirts of Calcutta who was on a trip to the Dooars with her family, died in a road accident in Jalpaiguri on Sunday.

Sources said that an SUV carrying four tourists on a jungle safari to Gorumara National Park of the district collided head-on with another SUV. Pratima Dey, from Madhyamgram of North 24-Parganas, died.

“The vehicle with the tourists was moving towards the Kalakhawa watchtower of the national park. It rammed into the vehicle near Mahakaldham on the Chalsa-Maynaguri road,” said an officer of the Kranti police outpost.

A police team rushed them to Maynaguri block hospital.

“The on-duty doctors pronounced the elderly woman dead. Others were shifted to the super-specialty hospital in Jalpaiguri," said Dibyendu Deb, a representative of Lataguri Resort Owners’ Association.

The injured are Premesh Kumar Mallick, Madhu Mallick, Mir Mallick and driver Suman Kar.
