Nearly five kilos of narcotics, worth around Rs 4.75 crore, were seized by police from two different locations in north Bengal on Tuesday.
Sources said a team of Kaliachak police in Malda district raided the house of Najim Akhtar of Mojampur village, and seized 4.2 kilos of brown sugar (a derivative of heroin), worth over Rs 4 crore. The police also came to know about some others involved in narcotic smuggling in the area.
In New Cooch Behar station, the Government Railway Police intercepted Tarun Debnath and his wife Rupa from the Calcutta-bound Kanchanjunga Express on Tuesday, and seized 530 grams of heroin from them. The couple from Hojai of Assam planned to deliver the narcotics to a person in Malda, sources said.
The BSF posted on the India-Bangladesh border, nabbed two Bangladeshi nationals from different locations in the past 24 hours allegedly for trying to enter India illegally.
