Bengal on Tuesday logged 525 new Covid-19 cases, 868 recoveries and five deaths.
Currently, there are 6, 954 active cases in the state, including 6,688 in home isolation and 266 in hospitals, according to the state bulletin.The recovery rate was 98.65 per cent and mortality rate 1.02 per cent on Tuesday.
The positivity rate stood at 4.77 per cent when 10,995 samples were tested on Tuesday. The rate was 5.73 per cent on Monday. Since the pandemic broke out in 2020, Bengal has so far recorded 20,99,958 cases, of which 20,71,599 have made full recoveries.
So far, 21,405 deaths have been recorded in the state. In light of the recent uptick in cases, booster doses in the state have also increased. In all, 107,48, 541 booster doses have been administered in Bengal so far. On Tuesday 3,94,668 booster doses were given across the state.
Healthcare professionals have started advocating for a second booster shot for those involved in medicine. The state government has issued a formal advisory saying that only fully vaccinated or asymptomatic persons should attend public gatherings. Mask mandates and thermal screening have made a comeback at public and private establishments.
