Five export-bound trucks with bleaching powder, cotton bales and paper rolls worth Rs 50 lakh were gutted in a fire at the Petrapole land port parking on Saturday.
BSF sources said that around 2.45am a truck with bleaching powder went up in flames. The chemical packed in gunny bags caught fire fast.
A small fire tender at the land port swung into action. BSF officials called fire tenders from Bongaon, North 24-Parganas, as flames raced to nearby trucks. Two more fire tenders arrived 10 minutes and doused the blaze in three hours. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
