4 youths killed in separate road accidents in Malda, Jalpaiguri districts in 24 hours

Four youths were killed in separate road accidents in Malda and Jalpaiguri districts in the past 24 hours.

Sujan Haldar, 22, and his cousin Abhishek Haldar, 27, were killed when their two-wheeler collided with a minibus in Malda district in the early hours of Monday. The accident occurred at Rampara in Muchia panchayat under the Habibpur police station jurisdiction.

Sujan had recently purchased a two-wheeler and reached Malda along with Abhishek to visit Durga Puja pandals in Englishbazar.

According to police sources, the duo were returning to their homes at Habibpur in the early hours of Monday. They tried to overtake a truck on the Malda-Nalagola state highway near Rampara and collided head-on with a minibus coming from the opposite direction.

Police sources said Sujan was wearing a helmet, but Abhishek did not have one. The cousins suffered serious injuries and were declared dead by doctors at the Malda Medical College and Hospital.

In Jalpaiguri district, Surajit Dakua and Pallab Das were killed when their motorbike rammed into a roadside tree on Sunday night. They were the residents of Tekatuli under the jurisdiction of Mainaguri police station.

The accident occurred on the Lataguri-Chalsa road around 11pm.

One of the riders died on the spot, while the other was taken to the rural hospital in Mangalbari near Chalsa. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

None of them was wearing a helmet, police sources said.
