At least 30 workers of Cooch Behar were injured when a bus they were in went off the road and fell sideways in Cooch Behar on Thursday morning.
Around 60 of them, who work in Bihar, were returning home by bus to cast their votes on Friday.
Sources said the workers from different areas of Dinhata subdivision had hired the bus in Bihar. As it reached Gobrachhara in Dinhata-II block under Sahebganj police station of the district, a tractor suddenly came from the opposite end and the bus driver lost control. The bus veered off the road and fell into an agricultural field.
Residents rushed to help and rescued the workers. They were taken to the subdivisional hospital in Dinhata where some are still under treatment.
“We work in a brick kiln. We were returning home to vote. I will vote for the first time tomorrow (Friday) and I am fortunate I have minor injuries. Around 60 of us were in the bus,” said Farooque Mian, a youth from Choudhurihat village of Dinhata.
A police probe is on.
