Police arrested three Trinamul supporters on Thursday in a case related to an attack on the convoy of Union minister of state for home affairs Nisith Pramanik on February 25. Police said that the arrested persons are Sanjay Barman, Ershad Sheik and Delwar Mondal.
“The trio were produced at Dinhata sub-divisional court on Thursday. The court sent Sanjay and Delwar to seven days in police custody while Ershad was sent in jail custody,” police sources said.
The trio were arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by CISF jawans at Sahebganj police station at Dinhata in Cooch Behar. The central forces are engaged as Pramanik’s security personnel.
A senior TMC leader on Thursday said: “How could the CISF personnel identify our workers?”
Last Saturday, Pramanik’s convoy was allegedly attacked at Burirhat in Dinhata subdivision of the district after which Trinamul and BJP supporters clashed on the spot. Police sources said that on Saturday Trinamul had organised a demonstration against Pramanik and waved black flags against him.
This led to a commotion between Trinamul and BJP supporters after which explosives and stones were hurled at each other. Police fired tear gas shells to bring the situation under control. Police started a suo moto case and arrested 21 BJP supporters.
However, Bengal governor C.V. Ananda Bose had sternly condemned the alleged attack on the convoy of Pramanik. In response, district Trinamul leaders of Cooch Behar on Wednesday played purported videos of the clash, accusing the BJP of orchestrating the attack.
