The Siliguri Municipal Corporation has identified three locations for parking spaces to decongest traffic at three prominent thoroughfares of the city.
In Siliguri, lack of parking space is one of the key reasons for traffic jams, especially during rush hours.
“We will develop three parking lots in the city. One will come up on the ground floor of a community building near Panitanki More, the second at the government housing complex in Milanpally and the third near Tinbatti More,” Siliguri mayor Gautam Deb said here on Wednesday.
Panitanki More is on busy Sevoke Road. The parking space at Milanpally, on the other hand, can help reduce congestion on Station Feeder Road and Burdwan Road.
The proposed project Tinbatti More will enable car parking off Asian Highway II.
Deb, who on Wednesday held a meeting with the commissioner of Siliguri Metropolitan Police, other police officials and officers of the civic body discussed other issues for better traffic management.
“I will speak with the chairman of Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority about developing the infrastructure of Paribahan Nagar (in Matigara) so that a terminus can be developed for buses which go to Assam and Bihar,” Deb added.
He said that a new terminus for local buses would come up at Tinbatti More and the management of PCM bus terminus on Sevoke Road was asked to keep more buses on the premises.
