Police arrested three more persons in Cooch Behar on Wednesday for allegedly being involved in the robbery in a private bus on July 1.
Earlier, the police had seized the SUV used for the crime and held its driver.
On July 1, a gang of miscreants had intercepted a private bus on Ranaghat-Cooch Behar route at Ghoksadanga. They had held the driver and the passengers at gunpoint and took away parcels containing silver.
Dyutiman Bhattacharya, Cooch Behar police chief, said the police had seized the SUV on the same day. Later, Sukdeb Roy, a resident of Takagach-Karishal area who was driving the vehicle, was nabbed. “We interrogated Roy and based on his information, three more persons have been arrested. We are trying to find out whether anybody else was involved in the crime.”
Those arrested have been identified Ajinur Islam, Majidul Haque and Serajul Mia, all residents of Takagach in Cooch Behar. They were produced at a local court on Wednesday and remanded in police custody for 10 days’.
Smuggler nabbed
Troops of 91st battalion of the Border Security Force nabbed a resident of South Dinajpur with Indian made foreign liquor at the Bangladesh border on Tuesday.
BSF sources said Sunil Sarkar, a resident of Bagduma village, was intercepted near his agricultural land that is ahead of the fence. They said that Sarkar had planned to smuggle those to Bangladesh. He was later handed over to police.
