3 held in Malda drug crackdown

District police continued its crackdown on narcotic racket with three persons being arrested with suspected brown sugar worth around Rs 10 lakh and a packet of yaba tablets from Dhulauri near Kaliachak on Friday early morning.

Sargent Sheikh and Abdul Rahim of Silampur and Raju Sheikh of Sershahi, all the three places located in Malda district, were moving in a two-wheeler when they were held.

The trio were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Police sources said 100 gram brown sugar would cost Rs 10 lakh on the clandestine market. The SP said altogether 11 people had been arrested in the district with narcotics in the recent past.
