A 27-year-old was shot at and critically injured at home allegedly by his friend in Nagharia under Malda’s Englishbazar police station on Saturday afternoon.
Manirul Khan, the injured, was rushed to a nursing home. Rocky Khan, the accused, has absconded. Mahirul, the victim’s brother, filed a complaint with police.
“Rocky came to our house and was talking to my elder brother. Suddenly, we heard gunshots and rushed to the room where they were to see my brother bleeding and crying in pain. Rocky fled,” he said.
They took Manirul to a private nursing home where doctors said he had a bullet injury. “The bullet pierced his nostril and got stuck in his skull. He is critical,” said a source at the nursing home.‘We are in search of the accused and are trying to find out the motive behind the attack,” said an officer.
Cash in car
Villagers near the India-Bangladesh border in Jalpaiguri district intercepted two SUVs on Saturday and handed over the vehicles and their seven occupants to police after the occupants of one vehicle accused those in the other of fleeing “with Rs 5 crore in cash”.
