A 26-year-old woman of North Dinajpur attempted suicide by slashing her left wrist in front of the cyber crime police station of the district late on Friday evening, alleging that police were not taking steps against her husband who reportedly posted her lewd pictures on social media.

Sources said the woman got married 11 months ago. After three months of the marriage, her husband posted some of her lewd photos on social media.

“As I came to know about it, I filed a case against my husband at the cybercrime police station on April 3 this year. So far, the police have not taken any step against him,” she said.

On Friday evening, the woman reached the cyber crime police station with her mother. The police station is located in Karnajora on the outskirts of district headquarters Raiganj. “The police personnel present there misbehaved with us. My daughter felt disappointed. She suddenly took out a blade and cut the vein of her left hand and said that doesn’t want to live anymore,” said her mother.

As blood spurted out of her hand, the police personnel intervened. They took her to a hospital and later her home with a police escort.

“We suspect that the police are in connivance with the family of my son-in-law. That is why they are not taking any step against him even though seven months have passed since she filed the complaint,” the mother added.

Officers at the cyber crime police station, however, denied the mother’s charges against them.

“A case has been registered under the Information Technology Act. We are in search of the accused (the husband) as he has gone into hiding. We have no idea why she suddenly resorted to such an act,” said a police officer.
