Bengal on Friday reported 2,237 new Covid-19 infections, 3,258 recoveries and seven deaths. The case positivity rate stood at 14.41 per cent when 15,520 samples were tested.
Currently, there are 26,727 active cases in the state: 26,049 in home isolation and 668 in hospitals, according to the state bulletin. The state’s recovery rate was 97.69 per cent and mortality rate 1.02 per cent on Friday.
Since the pandemic broke out in 2020, the state has recorded 20,81,728 cases, of which 20,33,694 have made full recoveries. Also, 21,307 fatalities were recorded in the state so far.

In light of the recent uptick in cases, booster doses being administered in the state have also increased. 65,13,777 booster doses have been administered in Bengal so far. 3,02,377 were administered in Bengal on Friday. Amid rising Covid cases, healthcare professionals have started advocating for a second booster shot for those involved in medicine. The state government has also issued a formal advisory saying that only fully vaccinated or asymptomatic persons should attend public gatherings in light of rising case numbers. Mask mandates and thermal screening too have made a comeback at public and private establishments.
