A 21-year-old nursing student from West Burdwan’s Kanksa was found hanging at her hostel room in Bengaluru on Saturday night.
Sources said Diya Mondal, a resident of Gopalpur in Kanksa, used to stay at a private hostel in Bengaluru. She was a second year nursing student.
Her father Debasish Mondal, a professional cook, said: “Diya spoke to her mother on Saturday evening and after an hour we received a call from her friend informing us about her death. She sounded normal while talking to her mother. We are surprised and doubtful of her sudden death.”
Debasish said that he would lodge a complaint of foul play with the police in Bengaluru and seek proper investigation.
One of Diya’s friends Akash Mondal in Kanksa said she also called him up on Saturday and spoke to him normally for around ten minutes.
“She sounded normal and spoke to me casually. I enquired about her studies and she told me everything was going well. Why would she suddenly commit suicide,” he asked.
Sources said Diya did not had dinner on Saturday night and when her roommate returned after dinner she found her hanging.
Local residents said Diya was polite in nature and a good student. She did her graduation from a college in West Bengal’s Durgapur.
“Diya wanted to become a nurse and help her father by adding income to her family. We are shocked and shattered over the incident,” said Jagannath Roy, her uncle.
